Dink jou in jy stap op sagte gras wat wieg in die wind, die rooigrond kraak onder jou stewels as die son opkom. Oral om jou staan akasiabome, hul lang skaduwees oor die veld. Die hemel reik wyd, oop en ligblou. Hierdie is nie sommer net ’n plaas nie – dis ’n blanke blad, reeds skoongemaak van indringerbos, nou reg om beeste te dra, wild te huisves of ’n nuwe lewe te begin.

Die veld is dig en skoon, groot dele sorgvuldig skoongemaak van dorings en verwaarloosde struike. Die gras groei lank en sterk, so reg vir die vee. Jy sien die rooibruin Bonsmara-koeie en bulle stadig wei, stilte omring jou, net nou en dan die roep van ’n voël in die verte.

Hier en daar staan sinkdamme tussen die bome, die water helder, en jy volg vars spore af na sementdrinkbakke. Sewe boorgate, waarvan drie met Eskom krag, sorg dat daar altyd water is, selfs in droë tye.

As jy verder stap, kom jy op twee huise af – eenvoudig, sonder praal, vol herinnering, wag vir iemand om weer lewe in hulle te blaas. ’n Kraal staan gereed vir vyftig beeste, voerstoorkamers, oop skure en kouekamers vir vleis en wild.
